Polar Stripes Room, 2019.jpg

Giehl’s line paintings are a complete play on color and structure.  There is something incredibly satisfying about a line - it provides order and balance. The glossy resin on most pieces allows the color to pop and the lines to deepen, providing an even more intense view.

The technique for Giehl’s Line Series changes depending on the inspiration and ultimate composition. Many of these paintings are actual collages of thinly sliced archival linen paper that Giehl paints. They are then adhered to the canvas or board creating the ultimately crisp and straight line composition.
